“There is a superhero in all of us, we just need the courage to put on the cape.” — Superman

This week I go back into my writing archives, aka #thestash. The following piece was written in November 2016.

A man’s life is meant to have suffering. A man has to think deeply. He has to formulate plans and he has to remain steadfast in his goals and plans. By doing this a man will one day reach the pinnacle of manhood; he will achieve the pursuit of the Romans and other great civilizations.

A man’s life, in short, has to be difficult if he is aiming to paint outside the station the world has set for him. Basically this is the core success for a man, be it in business, in sport or any other sphere of life.

This is what separates the great from the good.

As John Wooden put it, you have to have your pyramid of values.

A champion has to fight through all adversity with honour, humility and composure.

I have sometimes seen that one can be gifted, but without these qualities success is difficult to attain.

Boxing teaches you a lot: calmness, focus, discipline, toughness. It teaches you respect; respecting yourself, respecting others, respecting time, respecting your craft.

In the end that is the goal of a man, to reach calmness in mind and soul; to remain focused even amid distractions and the toughest times; and have the discipline to maintain the correct lifestyle and the toughness to deal with any challenge.
