“What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” — Nelson Mandela

My Random Thoughts are back again.

This week I have selected and put together quotes and lines from a writings stash which started in April when COVID-19 changed our daily lives and lockdowns took effect around the world.

Know your why. If you know your why, you can withstand any how.

One thing that the lockdown is teaching us is that the body can adapt to anything.

Maybe the lockdown is reminding us to be human and be more compassionate. A lot of people have come together to help each other during this time. We are realising things, like we need each other and we need our families. We are seeing that we have a lot of time on our hands.

There have been many disasters that have happened in the world in history and they have all taught many lessons that we can take forward and that we can learn from.

(We are in) an unprecedented time in life that has never happened before — coronavirus. It’s crazy. And, if you think about it mega deeply then you can lose your mind because the possibilities are wild in terms of the time it will take to get back to normal and the simple unknown of what normal life will look like down the line.

“I need no bodyguard at all, for even the bravest men who approach me get weak at the knees.” — Shaka Zulu

The key to working and to productivity is to use your energy well. When you have energy, use it productively. Energy comes and goes during the day. Some days you don’t have any energy at all.

Rain, sun or snow: be the sunshine of your life and those around you.

“Live as if you were living for the second time and had acted as wrongly the first time as you are about to act now.” — Heavy quote from Man’s Search For Meaning.

For the first time in 36 years there will be no flu season in South Africa. It is a small tidbit in comparison to the COVID-19 pandemic that we are going through.

But, it did get me thinking that there is always a positive in everything. No matter what you are going through you must always believe in yourself; find your full self. It is a long process. But you must not be afraid to go on a road which can sometimes be hard and difficult.

“The more you know of your history, the more liberated you are.” — Maya Angelou

Forever.

What does forever mean? Forever is the biggest word in the dictionary. We don’t understand it very well yet. We just say it. I want this forever; I will be with you forever.

That is why some marriages fail; we didn’t actually know or really understand what forever meant. Forever means every day, forever. Every single day for the rest of the time that you are alive.

Compete forever, like Pete Carroll says.
