We Are Not Enough

Sometimes we give out too much of ourselves, to our won detriment…

I was listening to Bishop T. D. Jakes this weekend. From time to time I listen to sermons.

They are like good speeches, there is always something you can learn and take from them.

T.D. Jakes’ message, to paraphrase, was that we can’t and shouldn’t give ourselves to everybody — we are not enough.

It was a strong message. We give so much of ourselves to so many people and so many things that don’t really love, appreciate or benefit us. We give out our time, attention, emotions or even money, and because we have given so much there, we don’t have energy to give adequately to those people that deserve it and are there for you.

We are busy giving out crumbs to everyone that we fail to give a full loaf to the people that deserve it — our family, friends and loved ones.

So, that was a big takeaway for me as I was chilling and resting on a Sunday evening and it was sort of an affirmation as well.

On Sundays I just zone out. I put my phone away and I just recharge. I think that is important. Whenever we can we need to really reduce the inputs we have, from messages and from social media, just to clear and rest the mind.

Taking care of my body

I have been guilty of not taking good care of myself lately. I have been sleeping late and getting little sleep in the name of doing work and getting things done, but I need to strike a balance because, as I write now, I am fighting off the symptoms of a flu.

This is because my body is tired, any small attack and my immune system is not strong enough to fight back, the body’s soldiers are tired.

So, I need to start sleeping a bit earlier and finish my day. We can’t do everything in one day. If something is undone, accept it and finish it off in the morning. I need to embrace this.

I need to sleep and recover. I need my body and my health more than anything.
